Home is what you make of it.

The house is a large two-story house out on the edge of town nearest the woods.  It's painted in rich, earthy tones and the front yard is a deep, vibrant green, even at night.  Tall trees shade the veranda and the yard and a wall of shrubs surrounds the property.  There is a stone walkway leading up to the veranda from the gate and on either side of the steps leading up to the porch are brilliant floral displays.  The house gives a warm, peaceful, inviting feeling and the windows opening onto the veranda are open, letting the evening breeze in and the sounds of classical music out.

The doors are large and heavy - oak - and when opened, reveal a spacious foyer.  The walls and floor are real wood, not paneling, and seem polished, but not overly so.  On the far wall are family photos, the first thing seen upon entering really, and in the center is a beautiful, red-headed woman. There are hooks along the entry wall.  Hanging from them are coats and below them are the shoes.

The living room is cozy, nothing amazing, though the walls are covered in bookshelves which are laden with books, old and new, and various crystals and a large collection of multicolored marble eggs.  In one corner is a tall ficus, brushing the celing, and in the other is a small shrine decorated with knick-nacks and topped by an odd, potted Lily.  There are other plants here and there, lending the room a wild, open atmosphere.

The kitchen is done in a classic, Old World style.  Wooden and stone countertops, a central island for preparation, above which hangs many pots and pans.  On one corner of the wall is a wine rack with a bottle here and there, seemingly at random, and the stove is large and topped above by a flue.  Fruit hangs in descending baskets near the deep, dual-basin sink and the scent of fruit and spices is stronger here.

As you step out onto the back deck, the scents of spices and herbs and fruits of all sorts mingle into a fragrant aroma. The garden is divided by crushed white marble pathways branching from the deck to a central fountain where small birds play and sing, unafraid of human intrusion.  Each section seems a bit different from the last, and is fully blooming with flora from different regions of the world that normally would never grow together.  Surrounding the large garden is a wall of tall hedges, trimmed back and flourishing despite the season.
